Thistle Down

Thistles grow on the property around my studio. Thistles can be found in various stages of bloom throughout the spring and summer months. The large lavender flowers are attractive to butterflies and other insects as well as hummingbirds. I find it wondrous that the mature dried blossoms plump with light airy seeds or "thistle down" which are used by birds for food as well as soft linings for their nests.
