The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher happens to be my favorite bird. I regard their arrival as the first sign of Spring and their departure, the first sign of Fall. They are elegant birds characterized by their extraordinary long tail resembling a pair of open scissors in flight.

The long tail aides in their aerial courtship display, a wonderful "sky-dance" that I love to watch. ‘Scissortails’ have a carefree air about them that makes me smile every time I see them.
