One
rainy morning, the delicate yellow blooms of bronze fennel in the garden
caught my eye. I studied the blooms and the dark geometric shape of the
stems, and thought it would make a lovely painting. Beautiful and elegant,
damp with mist, the colors of the bronze fennel were accentuated. A sense
of mystery is suggested with the flowers poised against the dark backdrop
of oaks and pale filtered light.
I
like to include insects in my paintings and chose a green clearwing
dragonfly to perch among the stalks.
